| The
province of Groningen is the northeast province of the Netherlands and
has the province of Friesland on its west, the province of Drenthe on
its south, Germany on its east and the Wadden Sea on its north.
Groningen was at one time part of Friesland as well as part of German
lands that borders it but never a part of Germany. There is a section
in northern Germany where they speak Frisian (that is called
Oost-Friesland) and that is because "Frisia" covered all the northern
